Black mold is a problem that no homeowner wants to deal with. The problem is, many people have black mold and don t even realize it. It can be a good idea to check through your home for mold growth so you can dispose of it and avoid sickness and other problems that black mold can cause. Wondering where to find it? Here is a look at some of the areas in your home where you may have some black mold growing.
Under the Drywall
Mold can grow inside the wall cavities and it will affect the drywall in many cases. If you notice that the walls are discolored or the paint is peeling or cracked, there may be black mold under your drywall.
Inside of Your Cabinets
Cabinets are dark and moisture can build up in them. This is a great place for mold to start growing, so make sure you check out your cabinets.
In Crawl Spaces and Basements
One of the big places to look for black mold is in crawl spaces or the basement. This area has a bigger chance of having mold than any other part of the home. If there is dampness, then there is a good chance you could have black mold, which can cause structural problems in this area.
Under the Floorboards
Black mold can end up growing under the floor boards. There is a lot of dirt in the floorboards and it s sealed off, so moisture can get trapped, providing a great place for black mold to live.
Areas with Water Damage
If you have any area that has water damage in the home, this is a great place for black mold to live.
Rooms that Have High Humidity
Rooms that have high humidity in them are more likely to have black mold. You may want to monitor your home s humidity. In rooms with 55% and above relative humidity, it is likely that black mold will begin growing.
Underneath Sinks
Another place you may find black mold is under the sinks. It can be under the kitchen or the bathroom sink. Sometimes there are leaks and moisture can be trapped there, causing the growth of this mold.
Behind Your Wallpaper
If you have wallpaper up, the glue can attract a lot of dust. Mold loves dust and lives on it, so mold can be found underneath the wall paper in many cases.
In the Flooring
Flooring, including carpet and tile, can trap dirt and moisture. This makes it a great environment for black mold to live in. Carpet is especially a great environment for mold, since moisture is held in the carpet because of the padding underneath it.
In Pots for Plants
If you have potted plants in your home, they may be a haven for some black mold. You water them on a regular basis and the soil can have nutrients for the mold, so they are a place to look for the mold too.
On Shower Curtains
Water gets on shower curtains every day, and of course dirt gets on them too. This makes them a great place for mold to grow in your home, especially with all the constant humidity that is in a shower area.
