Times of the standards and axes are over, and the Vikings don t bother restless Europe any more. Modern Danes found other occupations, like banking, sea trade and brewing. But those are not only grown-ups who need their toys. Many of us do remember meccanos we had in childhood, with multicoloured bricks that could be arranged into ships, houses or planes. Later, we had Lego toys, perfected, more delicate and well thought-out. The Lego industry was a great success in its Motherland, that s why there was a Legoland Billand park opened in 1968 in Denmark. In 1999, the toys reached California where there was the third toy park opened - Legoland California. Nowadays those parks are found in Denmark, Germany, USA and England. They are built of millions of bricks, and are visited by millions of people, mostly tourists. In Legoland Billand even grown-ups remember their childhood with its enchanted worlds and fairytale fantasies. Lots of children contests are organised here. Kids compete to become the best constructor, race on small electromobiles, make a boat trip around Roger s caves, fight with pirates to get their treasures and much more. Whenever parents want to relax, they can leave children with nurses, and they will make masterpieces of bricks for free. The park is divided into several sections: Miniland, where children feel like real giants. This is a model village with cars riding along its streets and steamboats sailing to and fro. Legoredo Town is a Wild West-style town, inhabited with cowboys and the Reds. Castleland is a huge royal castle you move around on a dragon s back. You can look at how people lived hundreds of years ago, watch knights fighting in a tournament, which ends with a merry feast, accompanied by pious monks, elegant ladies, guards and jesters. Finally, the dragon will take you to the treasure-house and out of Castleland. Then don t miss the Knight barbeque. Legoland is a huge park, and if you are worried about your kids safety, you can use a new Kidspotter service for them not to get lost. Your child puts on a bracelet with a GPS-receiver installed in it and, sending an sms, parents get information on where the kid is. The Dutch park works March December. Opening hours in July August are: 10 am 8 or 9 pm, restaurant kitchens and attractions stop their work one hour before the park is closed. Admission for kids under 2 years old is free. The park is situated only a 10 min taxi drive from Billund airport and has its own hotel: Hotel Legoland, of course with family rooms and a Kids House.
